Why measure your typing speed?
Typing is a core skill for developers, writers, students and support teams. A faster, more accurate typist spends less time on emails, documents and code. A quick test shows where you stand and gives you a number to improve.
What the results mean
- Net WPM: your real speed after removing mistakes. This is the number most employers ask for.
- Raw WPM: everything you typed, right or wrong.
- Accuracy: the share of keystrokes that were correct. Aim for 95% or higher.
Tips to improve
- Learn touch typing so you stop looking at the keyboard.
- Prioritise accuracy for a week, then let speed rise on its own.
- Practise 10 to 15 minutes a day instead of one long weekly session.
- Sit comfortably with relaxed wrists and take short breaks. A Pomodoro timer helps you keep to a routine.
Fair testing
Results vary with the words, your keyboard and how tired you are, so take two or three tests and look at the average. Pasting is blocked so that your score reflects what you really typed.
